Biology, Pre-Medical Science Concentration, B.S.

The Biology Pre-medical Science Concentration provides the foundation for students interested in pursuing a range of human health related careers, with a particular emphasis on those interested in M.D. or D.O. graduate programs after graduating. This concentration aligns with the requirements needed to complete the pre-medical studies designation through the Health Professions Advising Center and is structured to ensure medical school prerequisites are met. Students must maintain a 3.3 GPA to remain in the concentration and the pre-medical studies designation with a one semester probation period before being advised on switching to a different concentration.

Program Outcomes

At the end of the program, the student can:

1) Effectively apply scientific theory and knowledge to the study of biological systems,

2) Analyze experimental results obtained from scientific inquiry with laboratory instrumentation, 

3) Communicate knowledge of biological concepts surrounding human health to others, and,

4) Effectively evaluate published, peer-reviewed scientific literature relevant to biological research.

Students earning a B.S. degree with a major in biology must complete a minimum of 123 credits. Courses include the course requirements for the particular biology concentration as indicated below and completion of 40 credits of the University Core Curriculum with restrictions as listed below.
