The Master of Public Health (MPH) program at the University of New Haven is designed to prepare public health practitioners with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect and promote overall health by providing a person-centered educational experience. The program emphasizes the application of evidence-based strategies for disease prevention, health promotion, and community engagement.
Students gain expertise in key public health methods, including health assessment, policy development, program planning and evaluation, and stakeholder engagement. The curriculum focuses on ethical decision-making and equips students with the tools to address health challenges through interdisciplinary collaboration. The MPH program prepares future leaders who will apply public health principles to advance population health and advocate for equity and sustainability in diverse communities.
A total of 42 graduate credits is required for completion of the Master of Public Health degree, comprising of 36 required core credits plus 6 restricted elective credits.
Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the Master of Public Health program, graduates will able to:
- Analyze how public health interventions address health determinants outlined by the socioecological model.
- Apply epidemiological methods to settings and situations in public health practice.
- Integrate perspectives from other sectors and/or professions to promote and advance population health.
- Compose a high-quality written report encompassing field-specific competencies.
- Design a sustainable and scalable public health program, policy, recommendation, or communication that addresses an identified issue.
