ARTS 3340 - Contemporary Issues of Art and the Environment This course is an interdisciplinary course that focuses on contemporary issues of art and the environment. Lectures, readings, and research will provide an overview of the history of artists working with the land as a medium, and focus on contemporary works and theories by artists such as Robert Smithson, Christo and Jean-Claude, Andy Goldsworthy, and Olafur Eliasson. Students will also work together in groups to create their own environmental art installations to interact with the campus landscape and address issues of sustainability. This course will include visiting artist lectures and field trips to local art venues. 3 credits
