This program provides students with a broad overview of mathematics and its applications, especially those students who wish to study pure mathematics or for those whose career objectives include mathematics education or the application of mathematics to fields such as business, economics, or the social sciences.

Students earning a B.A. degree with a mathematics major must complete a minimum of 123 credits. Courses include the University Core Curriculum, and the courses requirements indicated below. Note: some courses listed below fulfill University Core Curriculum requirements.

University Core Curriculum

All students majoring in BA mathematics must complete the 40 credits of University Core Curriculum with the following restrictions:

CC 1: ENGL 1112 or ENGL 1113
CC 2: COMM 1130
CC 4: PHYS 1150
CC 5: UNIV 1141 OK
Tier 2: (MATH 1117 and MATH 1118 ) or (MATH 1118 and MATH 2203 ) or (MATH 2203 and MATH 1121 )
Tier 2: CSCI 1110
Tier 2: any Tier 2 course except for courses with MATH prefix or PHIL 2210

Required Math Courses (32 credits)

These classes are required of every student in the major.

Restricted Math Courses (3 credits)

Mathematics majors must take one additional math course selected from the following list:

CSCI 1110 - Introduction to C Programming
PHYS 1150 - Mechanics Heat & Waves w/Lab
Any two natural science, engineering, or social science courses above 2200 level
one additional math course numbered 4000 or higher

Electives (42 credits)

Plus fourteen electives

Additional Courses (30 credits)

Additional 30 credits are from the University Core Curriculum. These 30 credits exclude all courses with a MATH prefix, CSCI 1110, PHYS 11150, and PHIL 2210.
