Music Industry, B.A.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music Industry degree provides the intellectual tools to address current and future questions about the ever-evolving relationship between music and commerce. Students take courses that prepare them for technology-driven careers in record company operations, touring and concert promotion, artist management, marketing in the digital realm, music supervision, music publishing, and other entertainment industry roles.

The program focuses on business and legal concepts as they apply to the commodification of the art form of music. An assortment of courses in music theory, history, and practice, in combination with courses from the Pompea College of Business, provides a foundation in the creative and financial structures of the music industry.

Music industry courses cover topics such as record companies, contracts, music distribution, streaming, digital rights, music publishing, concert planning, promotion, and artist management. Career planning and development are incorporated into the program through internships and a capstone project.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES:

1. Students will be able to synthesize a broad range of creative and technical frameworks in the analysis of music.

2. Students will be able to evaluate the intersection of music and commerce with respect to its cultural and societal context.

3. Students will be able to apply business concepts and practices from a wide range of music industry sectors to a diversity of commercial ventures.
 

The B.A. in Music Industry requires a total of 122 or 123 credits with the following breakdown.
