Thirty credits in English beyond the first year writing courses are required for a major in English. Students completing a B.A. in English must complete the University Core Curriculum, the English Core, and the requirements for one of the concentrations in English (concentration in literature, concentration in writing, or track in pre-secondary education). 15 credits These courses develop foundational knowledge and skills and provide context for literary periods, cultures and genres. Concentration in Writing
The writing concentration requires five additional writing courses. 15 credits. Plus, 51 credits of free electives. Track in Pre-Seconday Education
18 credits The pre-secondary education track requires: - ENGL 2230 - Public Speaking & Group Discussion
- Two 3 credit literature electives, at least one of which is 3000-level or higher.
- Two 3 credit writing electives
- EDUC 3350 - Intro to Education and Field Study
Plus 48 credits of free electives
Note: pre-secondary education students are strongly encouraged to take HIST 1110 American History since 1607 for the University Core Curriculum 4.2 requirement. It is also recommended that EDUC 6603 - Human Growth & Development and EDUC 6604 - Educational Psychology are taken as two of the required free electives.
