B.A., English

Thirty credits in English beyond the first year writing courses are required for a major in English. Students completing a B.A. in English must complete the University Core Curriculum, the English Core, and the requirements for one of the concentrations in English (concentration in literature, concentration in writing, or track in pre-secondary education).

These courses develop foundational knowledge and skills and provide context for literary periods, cultures and genres.

The pre-secondary education track requires:

ENGL 2230 - Public Speaking & Group Discussion
Two 3 credit literature electives, at least one of which is 3000-level or higher.
Two 3 credit writing electives
EDUC 3350 - Intro to Education and Field Study
Plus 48 credits of free electives

Note: pre-secondary education students are strongly encouraged to take HIST 1110 American History since 1607 for the University Core Curriculum 4.2 requirement. It is also recommended that EDUC 6603 - Human Growth & Development and EDUC 6604 - Educational Psychology are taken as two of the required free electives.
